FAQ

What should I do when I arrive at the tournament?

All athletes must check in at the front, even if you weighed in the day before. If you have not yet weighed in, proceed to the weigh-in station after checking in. Weigh-ins must be completed at least 1 hour before your division starts. Be at your designated mat area at least 10 minutes before your scheduled first match, listen for your name to be called, and stay near your mat for the remainder of your matches.

How can I find my bracket?

This information will become available once the brackets are officially released in Smoothcomp, typically 2-3 days before the tournament date. To find your bracket, log in > click on one of your matches to expand the menu > select “bracket.”

I won all my matches but I’m not in first place, why is that?

Our match points system assigns varying points based on how the match was won. Points are awarded as follows: Win by submission in regulation: 4 points Win by submission in overtime: 2 points Win by fastest escape/decision in overtime: 1 point Win by walkover: 2 points Win by disqualification: 3 points Winning all matches in overtime does not guarantee first place. Competitors with more submissions in regulation have a higher chance of securing first place.

What if I didn’t make weight for early weigh-ins?

You may attempt again on tournament day, at least 1 hour before your first match. Failure to meet the weight requirement will result in disqualification without a refund.

Do I need to wear my gi for weigh-ins?

No, wearing your gi is optional.

Where and when can I do early weigh-ins?

Specific details will be provided via email one week before the tournament. Stay updated by following us on @avagrappling for the latest announcements.

I signed up for the gi and nogi divisions. Do I need to weigh in twice?

No, you are only required to weigh in once.

My child’s weight exceeded the 1kg allowance on tournament day, can you switch them to a heavier division?

No. Division changes cannot be accommodated on tournament day as all the brackets have already been scheduled. We strongly advise parents to regularly monitor their child's weight in the lead-up to the tournament to ensure they consistently meet the required weight class. If a change is needed, please request it at least ONE WEEK BEFORE the tournament to ensure proper adjustments can be made.

I can’t make it to the tournament anymore. Am I eligible for a refund?

You may be eligible for a refund or credit depending on the date of your withdrawal. If you withdraw before the normal registration deadline, you can request a refund (minus a 5% service fee) or a coupon credit through self-service. From the normal registration deadline until the late registration deadline, only coupon credits are available. After the late registration deadline, no refunds or credits are issued, including for sickness, injury, or bereavement. The only exception is if you are left without a match-up after bracketing, in which case you may choose a full refund, a credit, or to keep your ranking points and medal.

No one showed up in my division. What now?

You will have two options: 1) You are eligible for a full refund. Please let the officials know, and they will direct you to the head table for the refund. Refunds typically take 7-10 business to fully process. OR 2) You may opt to collect your medal as well as placement points contributing to your season ranking.

I got injured during my gi match and I can’t compete in my nogi matches. Can I get a refund?

No. This is considered a forfeit, and you will not be eligible for a refund. Refunds are only applicable in cases where a competitor is left without a match in their division due to no-shows on the tournament day.

Can I substitute for my missing teammate?

No, substitutions are not permitted.
