AVA Edmonton 2026 Statistics
April 30, 2026 AVA

Edmonton returned for its second AVA event and delivered another strong result, with nearly three quarters of all matches ending by submission across regulation and overtime. Overall, the event had a total submission rate at 70.4%, with 60.1% coming in regulation and 10.3% in overtime.
Youth divisions were the most active finishers on the day at 62.4% in regulation, with both Gi and No-Gi producing consistent numbers across age groups.
Gi Rise led all divisions with the highest regulation submission rate of the day at 88.5%, followed by No-Gi youth at 63.7% and Gi youth at 61.4%. Every division except Gi Throne Qualifier recorded a regulation submission rate above 50%, with the Gi Throne numbers skewed by a high walkover rate rather than a lack of finishing ability in completed matches.
A notable pattern emerged in the adult Gi division, where submission finishes in overtime slightly outpaced fastest escape outcomes — the only division on the day where that was the case. All other divisions saw more fastest escape outcomes than overtime submissions, suggesting that when matches extend, competitors tend to find escapes before taps. Qualifier divisions recorded no referee decisions and no disqualifications across the board, a clean result that reflects the caliber and preparation of athletes competing for ranking points and a path to Throne.
Referee decisions stayed well under 1%, meaning the overwhelming majority of athletes resolved their matches themselves. That number has held consistently across every AVA event this season.
A sold out room in the heart of the prairies, and nearly three quarters of every match settled by submission. Edmonton has become a city that understands exactly what AVA is about.
