AVA Rulebook v1.2 — Rules Amendments
August 9, 2026 AVA

The following amendments have been made.
Section 2.2 — Overtime, Live Positions
Live positions are Back, Mount, and Side Control. Quarter mount is no longer a live position. Back control requires chest-to-back contact with at least one of: two hooks, one hook, closed back (legs crossed), or body triangle.

Section 2.2 / 6.6 — Overtime Tiebreak
If overtime ends without a submission or escape, the referee decides the winner
using the following criteria (from most to least important): fewest penalties, most submission attempts, and positional dominance.

Section 2.3A — Legendary Stalling Counts
Legendary Title Qualifier divisions use a modified stalling count: 20 seconds in Regulation and 10 seconds in Overtime, instead of the standard 10 and 5 seconds.
Section 2.3E — Match Stoppage, Emotional Distress (new)
An athlete experiencing emotional distress unrelated to injury is permitted one 60-second recovery window per match, during which their coach or corner may enter the mat area. If the athlete fails to signal readiness once the window ends, the opponent wins by walkover. If emotional distress recurs after the match restarts, the opponent also wins by walkover.
Section 7.6 — Appeals (new)
Athletes, parents, and registered coaches may appeal a misapplied ruleset, or a mis-recorded result, full details in rulebook.
Appendix A — Technical Rules Index (new)
Complete technique legality index across all rulesets, by age and belt.
Amended rules are marked with an asterisk in the rulebook. New sections are marked (New in v1.2).
Appendix A — Technical Rules Index (new)
