AVA Western 2026 Statistics
May 26, 2026 AVA

Western closed out the spring leg of the AVA season with its biggest turnout yet, and the crowd came ready to finish. Of all matches on the day, 58.5% ended by submission in regulation, with overtime pushing the combined rate to 71%.
Rise, Youth, and Adult divisions all landed above 60% submission in regulation, a remarkably even distribution across the board. Gi Youth came in at 59.5% and No-Gi Youth at 58.0%, and when those matches did go to overtime, escapes were twice as common as submissions. Adults were more evenly split in overtime, with escapes and submissions coming in at a similar rate.
Gi Rise led all Rise divisions at 62.5% in regulation, with No-Gi Rise close behind at 57.1%. When matches extended into overtime, escapes came in significantly more often than submissions.
Both Rise and Throne qualifiers recorded zero referee decisions. Event wide, referee decisions came in at just 0.5%, consistent with AVA’s standard.
Throne qualifiers saw a high walkover rate driven by withdrawals on the day. The gi division held strong with 53.8% submission in regulation, while No-Gi Throne came in at 34.6%, with the high walkover rate of 42.3% accounting for much of the difference.
Western was the largest event of the AVA season so far, and it was no accident. Saskatoon, Edmonton, and now Western have each shown up in force and finished to match. The prairies are not just participating in this season, they are defining it.
